Abstract: This project mainly aims at establishing communication between two microcontrollers. This automated system uses 4 8-bit 16F877 PIC microcontrollers ,one at the main station and each remaining controllers at the substation and they communicate with each other.Asingle wire is used to connect between different PIC’s between which communication has to be established. Also there are two tracks and on the either sides of the track, many sensors are placed to detect the presence of train. The PIC controller of the main station acts as the master and controllers at the substations act as the slaves hence work under the concept of master-slave.Decision making and control and command signals are given according to the information obtained from different signaling and gate control section. For the gate control section, we hav used PIC 16F873 and it act as a sub-slave to the substation slaves. The main function of this section is to open and close the gate according to the commands from the main station which reaches the gate control section via the substations.Signalling and gate control can be done automatically from the main control station .We can fix a time from the main station. After this fixed time, the corresponding signals ie.,the signal glows green or red according to the status of the sensors.Same in the case for gate control, the railway gate open and closes if there is no traffic in between the gate
